Is your hearing not quite what it used to be? Don't suffer in silence. May is Better Hearing and Speech Month and battery-maker Duracell wants to make sure you're hearing as well as you could be.
With that in mind, they've rolled out the "Stay Connected " campaign, with a little help from "Mad Men" actor John Slattery. Slattery, whose father has dealt with hearing loss for the past five years, lent his voice to a moving new commercial designed to push people with hearing troubles to seek assistance.
The ad tells the story of a middle-aged grandfather dealing with hearing loss. He can't hear his wife's requests. He can't hear his coworkers when they ask him to join in on a gathering. But it isn't until he misses his newborn granddaughter's cries that he realizes it's time to get help.
"This powerful film shines a light on what millions of families have experienced with hearing loss,” Slattery said in a statement. "I hope that this film encourages all Americans to take a closer look at this issue within their own family, and help older Americans take the first step with their free screening.”
For anyone who watches the commercial and realizes it might be time to get their own hearing tested, Duracell is offering free hearing tests through the month of May.
