Martin Sheen Wants To Convince You O.J. Simpson Is Innocent In New Docuseries

The O.J. Simpson trial captivated America in the mid-1990s, and the country seems just as interested in the case 20 years after the pro-athlete was found not guilty of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

FX's "American Crime Story: The People vs O.J. Simpson" has proven to be a hit with both critics and viewers alike, and ESPN's over 7-hour documentary "O.J.: Made in America" is set to air in five parts on ABC in June. 

Now, Martin Sheen is getting in on the renewed interest in Simpson. The former "West Wing" star will executive produce and narrate "Hard Evidence: O.J. Is Innocent," a new docuseries that will attempt to show that the man, who later wrote a book called If I Did It , is actually innocent. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will air on Investigation Discovery and will reveal new evidence and offer an entirely new hypothesis for what happened at 875 S. Bundy Drive on June 12, 1994. Much of the show will be based on the work of private investigator William C. Dear, who wrote O.J. Is Innocent and I Can Prove It  in 2012.

Sheen told THR that the series will attempt to answer three questions: “What if there were enough evidence that proved O.J. Simpson did not murder his ex-wife Nicole or Ron Goldman? What if the real killer were still at large? And finally, what if a grand jury convened to reconsider the case based on new evidence?”

Simpson was found not guilty during his famed criminal trial, but was found liable two years later in a wrongful death suit.  A jury ordered him to pay $33.5 million to the families of his ex-wife and Goldman.  

"Hard Evidence" won't air until 2017, but the series finale of FX's "American Crime Story" airs April 5, ESPN's documentary "O.J.: Made in America" premieres June 11, and Esquire Network is airing a 12-hour special called "The Real O.J. Simpson Trial" on April 3 .
