"You can see how terrified they are," says the founder of an African sanctuary after seeing a "proof of life" video sent by kidnappers.
"When I got to South Africa my leg didnt have a pulse," Judd said of her potentially life-threatening accident and rescue.
"I wake up weeping in gratitude," the actor said after the "grueling 55-hour odyssey" to save her shattered leg.
The health crisis comes as the African country battles COVID-19 and the worlds largest measles outbreak.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
More than 1,600 people have died since August in what is the second-deadliest Ebola outbreak in history.
The virus has killed more than 190 people in the country since the outbreak was declared in August.
An active conflict zone and rising infections among health care workers are helping to spread the deadly disease.
The news comes just a week after the country announced the end of its ninth Ebola outbreak.
"It is unacceptable that Virungas rangers continue to pay the highest price in defense of our common heritage."
